Bed, Breakfast and Beaujolais

Driving the Autoroute du Soleil all the way to Marseille is quite an effort. “Why not stay overnight in a hotel near Lyon?” said Véronique, who eventually found a lovely B&B in Gleizé, near Villefranche-sur-Saône.

This little gem in the middle of the Beaujolais wine area is really worth the detour (no more than 20 minutes).

Le Vallon des Ronzières offers four rooms in an 18th-century building, at the foot of the owner’s vineyard. During our delicious breakfast, lady of the house Annick gave us some advice about what to see, and before hitting the motorway again we toured in the lovely landscape. One village, Oingt, was truly irresistible.

The village of Oingt is considered one of the prettiest in France.

Another picturesque place
