Great news for lovers of expedition cruises

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises have announced that two new expedition vessels have been ordered.

This news has been expected since a while and has now been confirmed.

Both identical ships are scheduled for launch in the spring and autumn of 2019. That is still a long time. However, as these ice-strengthened luxury vessels will mainly operate in extreme waters as Antarctica or the Amazon you’d better make your reservations in time. As soon as the itineraries will be announced you should book. The inaugural season will sell fast for sure.

The two ships will be built at the Norwegian Vard shipyard of Vard Holdings Limited, a shareholding of the Italian Fincantieri shipyard.

On-board Zodiacs will allow landings in otherwise inaccessible expedition areas. The ships will also feature a water sports marina.

One ship is going to serve the German-speaking markets (Germany, Austria, Switzerland). The other new-build will serve German-speaking markets and in addition Belgium, the UK, Netherlands and the US.

The maximum passenger capacity will be 240 persons, and there will be a crew of 170.

We have already sailed to Antarctica with Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ HANSEATIC, and the title of our report says it all: Yes I will return to Antarctica. Something to look forward too!
