Famous expedition cruise company Quark Expeditions has announced a new 176-passenger ship on their website.

Famous expedition cruise company Quark Expeditions has announced a new 176-passenger ship on their website. So far the company has been chartering older tonnage. Now a completely new ship will be offered for the 2018-2019 Antarctica season: the WORLD EXPLORER. She is under construction in the Portuguese shipyard West Sea near Porto.

Media company Cruise Industry News reports that up to four ships could be built at the yard. Apparently Mr Mario Ferreira is behind the investment. He is a well-known Portuguese entrepreneur, owner of river cruise companies Douro Azul and Nicko Tours.

He came into the spotlight when he bought the ferry ATLANTIDA, started to have it converted into an expedition vessel before selling it to Hurtigruten. She now sails as SPITSBERGEN.
