Bonjour la France
8 June 2013 • One of the many nice things on this cruise is that the ship arrives early in the destination ports and stays until late. This means more time for us to discover and enjoy.
Yesterday we were in the cute harbour-town of Saint Jean de Luz. Just a few kilometres from the Spanish border, still in Basque Country. Early in the morning the first tenders left the ship to bring guests ashore. A perfect opportunity for us to take many pictures of the Azamara Quest and the beautiful Basque style residences built in the 17th and 18th century.
For hundreds of year Saint Jean de Luz has been a successful fishing port and still on this date you can enjoy wonderful fresh seafood in one of the many typical restaurants.
The streets of Saint Jean de Luz are filled with shops for all tastes and wallets. We mostly enjoyed the walk on the promenade to the green Sainte Barbe hill. From the top we enjoyed a magnificent view on the bay and our ship. But first there was coffee in ‘le Spot’, literally as this is the name of the local café with a terrace situated on the hill.
We had a delicious lunch in restaurant Aart’hé. Smiles and good food always makes the experience even better.
Uhm…another one to add to the long list of places to come back to…
