My first ship inaugural (as a guest): NORWEGIAN GETAWAY
22 January 2014 • It seems only weeks ago that we were on board NORWEGIAN BREAKAWAY. We sailed from NYC to Bermuda in August, in order to work on the Shippax Designs annual book. We loved our trip, especially because of the connection with the ocean thanks to the Waterfront concept, and the friendliest crew ever.
Mike got up early to take pictures when NORWEGIAN GETAWAY entered Rotterdam. We spent one night in Hotel New York, which is now one of our favourites. The hotel is conveniently located only meters away from Rotterdam’s cruise terminal. When I got out of bed (slightly later than Mike) I could see the ship from my hotel room. Hooray!Hotel New York
Embarkation was fast and easy. In no time we could install ourselves in our comfortable cabin. Nice feeling to be the first guests in this brand new ship.
It was great to meet old and new friends. We already knew about the endless options of things to do on board of the new Norwegian Cruise Line ships so there was no time to waste to discover the ship.A view on the magnificent Erasmus BridgeThe Haven PoolTaste restaurantLe Bistro French RestaurantLa Cucina Italian RestaurantMike @ work, picture © Frank BehlingSuite in the Haven
The ship set sail at 10 PM accompanied by fireworks from the Port of Rotterdam. A nice treat.
My favourite moment was actually the press conference. It is just a pleasure to hear and see CEO Kevin Sheehan talk about his company and concepts. One of the pillars of his strategy is employee engagement. Having talked with crew members from different teams on board NORWEGIAN BREAKAWAY I learned how enthusiastic people are to work fort this particular cruise line. Norwegian Cruise Line puts a big effort in keeping their crew members happy and this shows.
They also put efforts in communicating a clear brand message. Freedom and flexibility is important. With the many dining and entertainment options it is not an empty slogan. Kevin Sheehan speaks with passion about his product. Delicate questions are handled with ease and humour. Respect.
Christer Karlsson, Norwegian Cruise Line’s Senior Vice President Newbuilding was also on board. You could tell from his shining eyes that he was happy. This ship was ready even before due date. How amazing is that? Logic that Mr. Karlsson is a proud man.Picture © Frank Behling
Many of the officers of NORWEGIAN BREAKAWAY now work on board NORWEGIAN GETAWAY and it was a pleasure to see them again and hand over Shippax Designs 13 to some of them. We enjoyed dinner in the Teppanyaki restaurant and the Illusionarium with colleagues from the Belgian press. No time to discover other specialty restaurants. Next time…Teppanyaki chef @ work
The weather was great, so if you think away the cold (it was January after all) you could imagine being in Miami under a gorgeous sun. There were even people braving the low temperature and enjoying the winter sun on the loungers and in the jacuzzis.Brave guestsJacuzzi @ H20 area
On Monday we were back in Rotterdam. Thankful for a great weekend with people sharing the same passion.
Safe travels NORWEGIAN GETAWAY.
