Details make the difference, night and day
27 May 2014 • First impressions are important. Our Spa Suite 534 on EUROPA 2 impressed as soon as the stewardess opened the door. Incredible, so much space on a ship…We entered the room via a little corridor with plenty of wardrobes on the left.As we were in Lisbon on Sunday we missed the elections. Much to our surprise we found one of our favourite national newspapers waiting for us. At least we would know who won.Plenty of space.
We hardly had the time to assess our astonishment when a young man entered and asked if he could introduce himself. It was Andreas, our butler, dressed in a blazer with a light blue tie. “Please, use our first names,” we told him. We had to convince him. “Are you sure?”
He showed us around, and made sure we would know that there is a Nespresso coffee machine, a complimentary minibar, a drawer with five bottles of spirits (“In case you would like to make your own gin & tonic”), a Samsung tablet, a multimedia TV, a remote phone (“to reach the one of you that is at the pool”).
We noticed the strawberries, the petit fours, the canapés, and the ice bucket with a bottle of Champagne, which he swiftly opened for us. Welcome on board!Véronique and me (behind the camera) enjoying a glass of Champagne on our balcony.
Shortly after Andreas had left, our suitcases were delivered and we could start unpacking. No need to worry about wardrobes and drawers. And plenty of hangers too.We are amazed by the details, such as a little bottle of relaxing pillow mist, and mints.
The most significant design feature is the window between bedroom and bathroom. Of course you can create more privacy with the shutters. In a way I like the idea of the view; of not being locked in.
The bathroom is well equipped, with a whirlpool bath and a separate area with a rain shower. The latter includes a steam sauna. Amazing.
And if that would not be enough, the Spa Suite is located only steps away from the wellness area astern.Plenty of amenitiesHaving the toilet in a separate little room is very convenient too. As you can see, no need to go around the corner to wash the hands.
After 24 hours we feel at home in this spacious suite. Hopefully the sun will come out soon. I can already imagine having a private diner at sunset, with sea view of course.
